Bridging art and brick industry - an exploration of material and process

During his residency in May and June 2025, Canu explored the meeting point between art

and industry, connecting traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary material

research.

Working within the brickworks, he examined both historical and modern production

methods,
integrating artistic experimentation into manufacturing processes.

Canu’s project reflects his ongoing interest in the dialogue between nature, architecture, and

material transformation. While his wider practice embraces sustainable approaches, in this

project Canu collaborated with the brickworks to merge artistic methodologies with

manufacturing techniques, exploring both historical and modern brick production.

By embedding his practice within an active brickworks setting, Canu extends ceramic

traditions beyond the studio, showing how industrial methods, such as modular extrusion and

surface treatments, can inspire new sculptural and architectural forms.

The exhibition presents ceramic reliefs, architectural elements and documentation from the

residency, highlighting how creative inquiry can shape new possibilities for form, function and

material culture.
