In between space is neither in one place or another. For me it is the learning that occurs culturally and mentally. I interpret this concept by designing a step ladder, upon the acknowledgement of its symbolic function of passageway between places and the journey in which the destination is out of sight or unknown. In the work unfired clay forms the body of the step ladder, which lies on a wooden structure composed of aligned wooden pins anchored on the floor. With this arrangement of materials I want to emphasize the application of the negative space in the construction and the contrast between the materials’ physical and aesthetic qualities. By exploiting the ambiguousness of the object I invite contemplation for its metaphorical and functional role.
